Introduction

Calling all amateur film directors, photographers, actors and actresses, and techies. The UW Film Creators Club wants you! If you think you’ve got what it takes to shoot an awesome film, to write a heart-rending script, to draw an artistic storyboard, or to stand in the spotlight and shine, then this is where you want to be.

In this age of online streaming of audio/video media and affordable digital equipment, the unexposed creativity of UW’s students can now be captured to share with the UW community! The UWFCC is a great way to connect creative UW students with an interest in media together than with a club dedicated towards writing, filming, and editing films.

We encourage all interested individuals, with or without previous experience in film, to come out and get creative!

History: The Roots of UWFCC

The UW Film Creators Club (UWFCC) was founded in the Spring term of 2008 by a second-year Arts student, Remy Choo, who was surprised to discover that such a club had not yet been created at the University of Waterloo. He moved to create the “University of Waterloo Film Club” but was told by the Federation of Students (FEDS) that such a name would be too similar to the name of a club which already existed that focused on showing films. Remy replied that this club would be different and, when asked “how so?”, he replied that this club would focus on “creating” films. Thus, the “University of Waterloo Film Creators Club” was born and, since its creation, been creating films for both entertainment and education. The vision behind the UWFCC has been, and always will be, to capture the rich and diverse culture of campus life here at the University of Waterloo.
